I sit here writing this morning having opened my presents with my family. The uncensored joy of watching three excited boys open their presents takes me back to my youth. The strongest Christmas memory I have of receiving a present I loved would be the year both me and my brother got our gold Falcon BMX bikes. Although not as flash as some other models out there (something only time can teach you, but you care little of at the time), we loved them. So the two wheeled passion had begun.

Sowing positive seeds in your life is worth more than a million pounds (substitute for your own currency). Without it I would have never returned back to cycling in my early twenties, having stopped riding when I was around 15, but that is another story. What happened to those gold BMX bikes, I have no idea, but I am sure that they found a new home once we were finished with them.

I'd like to thank the loyal (but small) readership that has started to gather for my site. Like many of you I will enjoy the good food and company over the next few days, but I am also keen to escape for a cheeky early ride to battle off some of the extra calories and get some fresh air in the lungs. I like this period as the roads tend to be a shade quieter than usual and the added space allows you to drift towards what may be in the spring and summer months.

Even though the world is suffering it's worst financial position for many years the Christmas spirit seems to be stronger for it. I predict that although cycling is not the cheapest of sports it will continue to grow, as once you have bought a bike and some gear, the riding itself is free leaving time itself as the most expensive item.
The site will have a Classics feel to it over the festive period, as this is where my brain is focussing at the moment, trying to decide on which events to do. Best wishes to all, and try to escape for at least an hour, you'll come back a richer person for it.
